Qualification Description
This qualification reflects the role of educators who are responsible for the day-to-day running of a regulated school age education and care service in Australia. They plan, implement and manage programs across all areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. Educators have responsibility for the supervision of volunteers and/or other staff.
Educators in this context work in outside school hours care and vacation care.

To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

The Diploma qualification provides for employment in the following roles:

- Lead Educator in long day care, child care centres, occasional care
- You have sufficient knowledge to enable you to perform it in a range of situations.
- Recognition of Prior Learning is the process that is used to recognise the skills and knowledge you have acquired through life and work experience (paid or unpaid) and match them to a qualification.
- Rather than have to start a qualification from scratch, you would be required to provide various forms of evidence to prove you are competent in the units within the qualification
